Current favorites (aka my travel essentials)

Who's the over- packer? That'll be me. I brought so much beauty products with me on my holiday to the Philippines but it turned out I only needed to bring a couple of products with me. Travel light? Pah! I don't know the meaning of those 2 words. :) For example I brought 9 lipsticks with me but only used 3 out of the nine. My reasoning behind it? to be on the safe side. Just in case I wanted to rock bright lips but in the end I opted for nude lips. Typical right? Is it just me? What is it with girls and packing? Why do we feel the need to haul around our entire wardrobe/make-up collection? In my defence I really thought I was going to use all of the stuff I brought with me. Honest. :) But surprisingly and much to my skin's luck I kept my make-up simple. There were even days I wore nothing at all. Nadah. Feeling quite proud of myself.

The hot climate in the Philippines probably played a role as to why I sported the ''no make-up make-up look day in day out on the days I was bothered enough to play around with beauty bits. Hot weather + face full of make-up = melt down disaster. Who wants that? Certainly not me so I kept it relatively simple with  the occasional smokey eye. I love me some smokey eye but apart from that, the rest of the face was kept fresh and simple as can be so let me dedicate a post to my travel essentials which needless to say are my current favourites as we speak. :)

For my base I reached for Avon Smooth Minerals Foundation in Shell.  This lightweight powder foundation always blends easily and never looks chalky on my skin. It doubles as a concealer for my undereye dark circles.Quickly dusted that all over my face followed by a light layer of Avon Ideal Flawless Pressed Powder in Light Medium under my eyes. As the Smooth Mineral foundation tends to highlight the tiny pores around my cheeks I listed the help of Benefit Porefessional  which is fast becoming my favorite and best beauty find of 2012. Yes I heart it that much. This is like my underwear. I need to wear it. A quick light dab of it over my pores reduces their appearance. A lightweight veil? I likey. A lot. :)

To vanish the dreaded double chin *oh dear :( * my beloved Bourjois Paris Delice De Poudre Bronzing Powder came to my rescue. Lovely shade for contouring, never too orange/muddy + yummy chocolate scent? Oh la la I'm in heaven. For the first 3 weeks of my holiday I applied my everyday blush of choice- Bourjois Blush Pot in 74 Rose Ambre This beautiful peachy pink blush with hardly any shimmers has constantly been on my face since the day I bought it. It continues to be a firm favorite of mine but towards the latter part of my holiday I found myself seeking for a little change. I wanted a sun kissed look and much to my delight it didn't take any major brains to figure out what to replace it with. Arabian Glow Bronzing Pearls gave me that sun kissed glow I desperately wanted. I applied it on my cheekbones as a blush but yet it still served its bronzing duty. It accentuated my cheekbones and therefore contoured my face. No need to draw a line under my sucked in cheekbones and blend it all in with all my might. Just simple, easy and quick contouring. :)

Eyes wise my Urban Decay Naked Palette is pretty much all I used.  As expected my safe and go to choice of Smog, Darkhorse and Buck was present on my eyes but what took me by surprise was how lazy I became towards playing with eyeshadows. My laziness brought Toasted towards my attention. Lightly dusted and blended- Toasted was a gorgeous, shimmery sultry brown all over lid shade. Several quick coats of Benefit Bad Gal Lask mascara (which makes my lashes thick and longer without the clumps) later and my eye make-up was sorted. Almost forgot to mention another great product I'm loving at the moment. How can I forget about my Urban Decay Primer Potion? Shame on me. *slaps my palm* It always works. With a small dab on this on my eyelid before applying my eyeshadows, I can relax with the knowledge and assurance that my eyeshadows will last on my lids up until the wee hours into the night.

For lips I only wanted 1 thing. Nude peachy pink shades. Revlon Superlustrous Lipgloss in 170 Coral Reef (can this be the ultimate summer lipgloss? I think so), 17 Mirrorshine in Belle (my favorite lipstick forever and ever) and Avon Shine Attract in Guava all ticked the nude peach pink box so they were luckily slathered on my lips. Equally beautiful everyday shades. But Coral Reef deserves an extra shout out since I practically reached for it everyday. What a lipgloss not a lipstick? And I call myself a lipstick junkie? Even I surprise myself sometimes. :)

The Perfect Summer Polish

The weather is really hotting up isn't? I'm now back in Irish soils after my 6 week holiday in my homeland- The Philippines. I expected a colder weather when I arrived but much to my surprise the weather is kinda hot over here as well so it's perfect timing to write about my favourite summer nailpolish. My love affair with pastel nailpolishes is over, well for the meantime that is. I mean they still have a place in my heart but a girl needs a certain amount of room sometimes ya know? A break from wearing them on my nails will make my heart grow fonder . FACT.

Avon Nailwear Pro nailpolish in Viva Pink just screams summer to me. It's summer in a bottle. A gorgeous creamy hot  pink with blue understones running through it. Looks great with a tan and it's a color that never fails to add a much welcome spice to my otherwise rather boring life. I live such a fulfilling, exciting life. NOT. :) The flat brush makes for easy application, evenly coating my nails with just 2 quick strokes. Dries quickly, average drying time is 5 mins per coat and it dries with a semi glossy finish. It always applies evenly on my nails never requiring more than 2 coats. As for its wear time it typically lasts for 5 to 6 days before chips rears its ugly head in.  What color you see inside the bottle is what you get. No dilly dally here. Apart from the stunning pink color which btw, always reminds me of a lollipop ( therefore I have to refrain myself from sucking on my own fingers. Eww alert? :) ) the beautifully created formula is also a winner. Nailpolish application doesn't get any easier than this. Now where did I put my sunglasses? Cuz this beauty blogger is off to the beach. :)

Revlon Super Lustrous lipglosses - Coral Reef & Shine That Pink

Lipglosses.Love them or hate them it can't be denied that they add fun to a make-up look. They add a little somethin' somethin' if you know what I mean. A lot more playful, less serious but super flirty cousins of lipsticks. Aside from bright lipsticks I always reach for lipglosses throughout the summer because they're more manageable, requiring little to no maintenance. They naturally fade away while lipsticks require careful monitoring because a faded lipstick is NOT a pretty sight (although my Avon Colordiasiac lipsticks from Avon fade beautifully, leaving a pretty stained appearance.) 2 of my summer lipglosses picks are from Revlon's Superlustrous line in Coral Reef and Shine That Pink.

Both shades are surprisingly quite pigmented for lipglosses. Coral Reef is a stunning creamy medium pinkish peach coral.Add a bit of bronzer and I'm ready for the beach. Beach  Goddess doens't get any easier or better than this.It doesn't apply as pigmented as it looked while inside the tube but still a pretty shade. Shine that Pink is a beautiful warm pink with shimmers. These were quite sheer on first swipe but they're totally buildable to give a medium coverage. Add 2 to 3 swipes and I'm satisfied.

The shimmers in Shine That Pink are subtle and gives the illusion of a fuller pout. Definitely ideal for ladies with thin lips. My lips are already full to begin with (thank God) but I find that these lipglosses made my lips look more fuller ie more pretty and more kissable. The shimmers are definitely lips friendly. Not an enemy to hate. They don't feel gritty at all.

The Chanel inspired packaging is oh so chic and sophisticated. These lipglosses look more expensive than they actually are. In my humble opinion they deserve a place in a department store next to the Chanel counters. Long lost sisters? Possibly. :)

Amazing pigmentation and packaging aside, I also love the texture of these lipglosses. The creamy, moisturising formula feels incredible on the lips, gliding effortlessly leaving a fuller pout with just the right amount of shine. Nothing too over the top. It makes my lips look ultra glossy without the stickiness I have come to expect with most lipglosses. The hyrating formula leads to intense moisture I cannot quite get over. Just a little tip though: exfoliate with a lipbalm first before applying these lipglosses to avoid accentuating any dryness on your lips and to prevent the lipglosses form clinging on dry patches. By exfoliating you would create a smooth surface for the lipgloss to adhere to, thus preventing them from sitting on the fine lines of the lips ( which I didn't do but see the above photos for reference. I've learned my lesson)

As with most lipglosses these lasted about 11/2 hours on my lips. There's no point complaining about the short lifetime. I actually prefer lipglosses that need constant reapplication but are not sticky rather than wearing a sticky lipgloss that lasts forever but feels tacky on my lips like my Mac Ready or Not lipglass- don't get me wrong though. I freakin love that lipgloss so much I hailed it as the only lipgloss for me. :) You can't have it all in life I guess.

What's your favorite summer lipgloss? Dish in the comments below. I'd love some recommendations.
